When a Primary Health Network (PHN) partners with My Emergency Doctor, they offer our service to constituents in their key catchment areas and subsidise the cost so that the patient pays no fees when consultations occur in specific periods of time (eg. after hours).

The service is funded by the Australian Government under the PHN program.

Patients within PHN areas

Currently, residents of some of our partnered PHNs can access My Emergency Doctor at no cost in the after hours period.

After hours calls include those made before 8am and after 6pm weekdays; before 8am and after 12pm Saturdays; and all day Sundays and public holidays. Calls made outside these hours and/or calls from residents outside of the eligible regions, will incur a standard fee.

    My Emergency Doctor is a telemedicine service providing access to an emergency specialist doctor for acute medical conditions when a person's usual doctor isn't available and they're not sure if they need to go to an emergency department. Our service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.

    Expertise

    All of our consulting doctors are emergency physicians and trained to make important critical decisions. They are Australian-qualified as Fellows of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEMs), registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and go through a rigorous selection and credentialing process.

    This service is not a replacement for 000. If a patient is unconscious, has chest pain, difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding or has been in a major accident, please dial 000 immediately.

When to Call

If you or someone you know unexpected symptoms or are feeling acutely unwell, it can be difficult to know who to call. This service is specifically for the after hours period or for some people, like the elderly or those with preexisting conditions, times when you might normally attend an Emergency Department but may not be able to in the current environment.

My Emergency Doctor is not a replacement for your GP or the ambulance service. If a patient is unconscious, has chest pain, difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding or has been in a major accident, please dial 000 immediately.

If you live within a geographical catchment area of a Primary Health Network that has an agreement with us, a consultation with My Emergency Doctor may be appropriate if your or the patient experience any of the following conditions for immediate care:

  • Abdominal Pain
  • Fainting
  • Headache/ Head Injury / Concussion
  • Flu
  • Fever
  • Rashes, bites and stings
  • Back pain
  • Sore Throat
  • Diarrhoea and Vomiting
  • Acute Injury
  • Headache
  • Urinary Tract Infections
  • Allergic reactions
  • Sports injuries
  • Work injuries

While connecting to our service you will be promoted to fill in your partner code, which is the postcode of the area you reside in.

How it works

My Emergency Doctor is Australia’s most trusted telemedicine service providing access to an emergency specialist for acute medical conditions.  Our service is suitable when a person's usual doctor isn't available and they're not sure if they need to go to an emergency department. 

If you live within the geographical catchment area of a Primary Health Network that is partnering with us, your postcode can be used for a free after-hours consultation with My Emergency Doctor. You simply need to ring your special 1800 hotline number to reach us or download the My Emergency Dr app (see diagram below).

Please note that our service is on-demand telemedicine and we do not provide home visits or in-person consultations, nor do we prescribe S8 medications.

Access to our online specialist doctor service is via telephone or a free app, available from the App Store or Google Play.

 

 

 

We recommend you have a stable internet or data connection when using the app, and are in a well lit area, so the emergency specialist can view you and/or the patient.
