What is the difference between an Emergency Doctor and a General practitioner?

An emergency doctor is one who is trained to take care of any illness, regardless of age. They are trained to quickly assess a patient to ascertain if the issue the patient is experiencing is life threatening in the least amount of time.

While a GP is able to assist and diagnose minor illnesses and treat minor injuries, they often refer patients to specialist or send them to see emergency doctors for the next level of care.

Emergency doctors are trained in:

  • Pediatrics
  • Geriatrics
  • Pain management
  • Injuries
  • Sports medicine
  • Disaster medicine
  • Mental health assessment

And more.
